Journey Through Cancer – Oral care subsidy for specific cancer patients requiring radiation therapy
Radiotherapy is a common treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) and head and neck cancer (HNC). These patients require comprehensive dental care before and after radiotherapy treatment, as the radiation often leads to side-effects requiring ongoing oral care.
However, these patients have limited dental care options beyond attending private dental clinics, which is expensive and means significant financial burden for the underprivileged. The lack of adequate dental care can significantly impact their quality of life during recovery.
The project offers free oral care assessment and treatments for these patients with financial difficulties, with the goal to improve their quality of life.
Peace Dental Clinic is appointed by The Community Chest as the designated clinic for this project. If you have any enquiries, please call Peace Dental Clinic Heidi Ho at 2345 5251.
Journey Through Cancer Project mainly assists patients with nasopharyngeal cancer and head and neck cancer, providing them with dental treatment and care services before, during and after radiation therapy. These include (but are not limited to) Pre-radiotherapy oral assessment, Oral hygiene care, Preventive fluoride therapy, Tooth restorations, Dental prosthesis, Post radiotherapy oral maintenance care.

The Community Chest Medical Assistance Fund
Demand for healthcare services is high in Hong Kong and the public healthcare system is constantly overloaded.
Launched in phases, The Community Chest Medical Assistance Fund (MAF) aims to respond to a huge demand for medical needs to targeted beneficiaries who are not eligible to receive assistance from the existing public and private medical assistance schemes. Also, it will bring about improvements to the quality of life of these patients, lessen their financial burdens of medical care and help shorten the long waiting time facing them when seeking medical services.
